The next day in Charlotte’s apartment, Eoghan hovered over her like she was made of glass and would drop from a blood clot in her brain at any moment. Of course, that was ridiculous, he reminded himself, but he couldn’t help but worry about her. He’d been so high off her that he’d failed to support her and keep her safe during such an intimate moment between them.

“Eoghan,” Charlotte called.

He peered down at her sitting figure on the couch in her apartment. A frown was etched on her face.

“Sorry, what was that?” he asked.

She sighed. “Are you staying tonight?”

He had wanted nothing more for the past few weeks than for her to invite him to stay the night with her. Why now? “No. You should rest your noggin.” He did a poor job of being funny, but Charlotte’s well-being was no laughing matter.

“You’re never going to touch me again, are you?” she asked, snuggling into the cushion.

“Just not tonight.” He laughed, moving closer to her. “I don’t have that kind of willpower.”

“I told you it wasn’t your fault, Eoghan, and I meant it. We both were in deep, and I am in perfect health. The doctor even said so.”

He stroked her chin. “You’re a horny little nymph, aren’t you?”

“Did you just call me a nymph?” She laughed. “I’m dead. I have never been called that. It sounds wild.”

She was so fucking cute, even when she slagged him. “That’s why your head is as big as your ’fro.” He patted her hair.

They teased each other back and forth, and it felt nice to forget about how he’d nearly killed her.

“The only way to get over what happened is for us to do it again,” she said.

“What?” He backed up to the other side of her apartment.

“Yeah. You have to fuck me in the bathroom again. This time we have to be successful.”

“We were successful.” He winked. They’d both achieved stellar orgasms that night, and he’d never forget coming inside her any more than he’d forget dropping her in the bathtub.

“You know what I mean,” she said, standing up.

He didn’t bother to instruct her to sit down, because the only time she followed his instructions was when they were intimate. “That’s not going to happen.”

“We’ll see.” She sauntered over to him and ran her fingertips over his shoulder and down the front of his chest.

“Sex affects your blood pressure.” He inhaled sharply at the mischief in her eyes as her hands moved over his abdomen and down to his belly button with no sign of stopping. “You can get a bad headache and . . .” His pelvis moved forward instinctively, and knowing where this would head if they didn’t stop it, he grabbed her hands with his own. “Charlotte, please,” he begged. “Just give me a few days for the trauma to ease up.”

“Fucking me is traumatizing, now?” She crossed her arms.

“Woman.” He kissed her good and firm, claiming her, marking her, before he pulled away. “Soon,” he said, struggling to let her go.
